Release notes

What changed in each alpha release, newest first. The same notes show up in the game's "What's new" window.

Release 7

New

  • Carving: creatures now drop their loot when you carve them, and everyone who helped gets their own share.
  • Hearths: you wake at the nearest hearth you've found when you're knocked out.
  • Ammo pouches are kept by the server, and carving creatures can give you scrap.
  • Poison and bleeding build up from bites and spines; cure them with a Kelp Poultice or a Patch Bandage.
  • Crafting: station recipe lists, a search box, categories, and an ingredient picker that shows the quality you'll get.
  • The Drowned Light: a sunken lighthouse with quest finds inside.
  • Dropped items and anything that doesn't fit in your bags land as pouches in the world.
  • Den upgrades take what they need straight from your storage chest.
  • Settings: pick your screen resolution (with Keep or Revert) and customise your crosshair.
  • A What's new screen (this one), new music, and kelp veins to gather.

Changed

  • Named rare creatures are much tougher (three times the health), and at most two are out at a time.
  • Chat is easier to read; only lines starting with / are emotes.
  • Clearer XP and loot text, and backings behind on-screen prompts.
  • Updates are now required: when a new release is out, the game asks you to restart so the launcher can update you.

Fixed

  • Invisible creatures that could still hit you.
  • Being pushed back or kicked for brushing against walls.
  • The sword plunge exploit.
  • The Shrine of Echoes step, copper ore's tool, and feet sinking into the sand.
  • NPCs in Nim and Meridian walking through things.
  • Chat sending only to players who are connected.

Release 6

New

  • Dyrhald is now online-only: your character lives on the server, so it's the same wherever you log in.
  • New guns, and ammo pouches to carry more shots.
  • Unique items: one-of-a-kind finds with their own looks and bonuses.
  • Quality and rarity on what you gather and craft: better materials make better gear.
  • The human kit: humans breathe and dive with gear that grows with them.
  • Character looks: choose how your diver looks when you make them.
  • Quick sell from your Den: right-click anything in your bags or storage chest and sell it at a trader's price.
  • The auction: right-click an item and list it for other players, then collect your earnings in the inventory's Auction tab.
  • The Diver's Handbook: a page for each thing you learn, unlocked as you meet it.
  • Stats, achievements and leaderboards, in the inventory screen.
  • Hearth respawn: set your hearth at a town's cooking fire, and wake there if you're knocked out.
  • Press F8 to send us a bug report straight from the game.

Changed

  • Melee is reworked: weapons swing, block and land hits more clearly.
  • Skills are reworked, with clearer choices in each tree.
  • The starting area is calmer, so you can find your feet before the fighting starts.
  • A new look for the HUD and every menu, with a compass and one tab bar for the map, quests, inventory, skills, the Bestiary and the Handbook.
  • "Press E" prompts sit on a backing, so you can read them on bright sand and in the dark.
  • Repair, upgrade and salvage show up only at a workbench, as their own tab.

Fixed

  • Townsfolk and quest givers behave and stand where they should.
